ColorCapture -FREE from iTunes: click here
Get your color on with the ColorCapture app from Benjamin Moore! Whether you are painting a room or an entire house, this is a great app to use for color inspiration. Just snap a photo of any object, painting or color you like. Use the Move and Scale tool to isolate the colors you like from the photo. Tap a color on the photo, then click the Strip button, and the app will match it to a color family swatch with the name and number of the corresponding Benjamin Moore color. Tap the Harmony button to find other color hues that can be used as accents. So cool! One word to the wise however; when you’re ready to you paint, TRY THE COLOR IN A SMALL AREA FIRST and let it dry completely. This way you can see if you really like it and save yourself a lot of time and hassle if you don’t. Benjamin Moore has a rent a pint program which is a great way to try a color before you buy. Rent a few pints to test how the colors you’ve chosen will work together on different walls or in a sight line from room to room. It’s well worth the few dollars to do this first! The app also includes a color wheel and color cards for additional inspiration, and also has a store locator feature. Super handy even for the most creatively challenged!
MagicPlan – FREE from iTunes: click here
This app is a super cool way to create a floor plan! It’s simple to use and includes an easy to follow tutorial for those that need more instruction. Standing in the middle of the room using the camera in a phone or tablet, the tools allow you to draw the perimeter of the floor and add openings for doors and hallways. Voila, instant floor plan! This method will give you a rough floor plan, but you can also use the Calibrate tool to add the proper dimensions to make it really accurate. The floor plan can be saved as a .pdf, .jpg or .dxf file to be compatible with other programs, printed or shared. Another great feature is that the floor plan can be set up in meters or feet, and the openings can shown in a variety of types, like double doors. You can also add and position furniture, appliances, counters, tubs and sinks, all of which are customizable. Definitely a cool thing!
